Two and a Half Men Analysis Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
More than two Men Analysis - Assignment Example It gives the ideal chance to contemplate two inverse types of current manliness. ââ¬Å"Literature on sex and authoritative manliness outlines this examination venture, offering both an authentic point of view and a basic comprehension of media portrayals. I contend that the exhibitions of domineering and subjected manliness on Two and a Half Men recreate and strengthen the predominance of authoritative manliness inside our general public as the main adequate presentation of masculinity. Feminine manliness, an elective manliness, neglects to discover authentic social enunciation inside the show.â⬠ââ¬Å"In a significant sense there is just one complete unblushing male in America: a youthful, wedded, white, urban, northern, hetero, Protestant, father, of school instruction, completely utilized, of good appearance, weight, and stature, and an ongoing record in sportsâ⬠¦ Any male who neglects to qualify in any of these ways is probably going to see himselfââ¬during minutes a t leastâ⬠as shameful, deficient and inferiorâ⬠(Sex and Gender, nd). In the event that this, at that point is what our general public anticipates from the ââ¬Å"perfectâ⬠man and the principle character Charlie Harper has actually none of these other than white completely utilized and gorgeous, might we be able to accept that these then are the authentic qualities alone that draw in us and particularly female watchers to him? Specialized Perspective The specialized part of media might be added in Lasswellââ¬â¢s model. As indicated by Lassswell, this perspective envelops who says what, to whom it is being said and impact it that the ââ¬Å"sayingâ⬠has (Aect, 2011). More than two Men as a parody has been featured by John Cryer, Jones Angus and Charlie Sheen, people who have demonstrated certain to the crowd that they are prepared to do... Over two Men has been an enrapturing hit since it began gracing the wireless transmissions in 2003. The program essentially thinks about the character of one individual in the show with a similar character in his reality. The story depicts a family that is obviously useless from each purpose of standing but then one that has stayed an account of extraordinary enthusiasm to a crowd of people comprising of individuals across various ages and sexual orientation. More than two Men has intrigued different individuals, age and sexual orientation being no boundary, there are different components that have prompted this captivation as can be seen dependent on the different viewpoints examined previously. This is an astounding thing with Kutcher supplanting Charlie Sheen since now we will know such a great amount about ourselves. Did we watch the show principally in light of the fact that Charlie Sheen was the lead or did we watch the show since we where it counts anticipate that the male job should be that of a hard drinking ladies getting misanthrope who differentiates the decent yet exhausting sibling. We will see whether the show was drawing crowds with the clichã © of the moronic kid and cold reserved mother or whether the world finds the dysfunctioning of somebody elseââ¬â¢s family resembles that train wreck we donââ¬â¢t need to get some distance from. Different observers have publicized their disregard for Charlie Sheenââ¬â¢s activities in regard of bragging about his powerful capacities. While some vibe that CBS took the correct heading in halting the creation of the shows for his articulations, others feel that Sheenââ¬â¢s activities identified with the maltreatment of a few ladies is the more prominent sin. I for one idea Charlie Sheen was made for this job and the other way around considering the spring board from when he supplanted Michael J Fox in Spin City. I was dismal to see Michael Fox leave yet turned out to be immediately sold on the absolute first scene with Charlie Sheen as was a large portion of America. You saw it there in his Spin City Charlie Crawford job which formed into his Charlie Harper job which quite possibly was the genuine issue of Charlie Sheen attempting to satisfy his on screen persona. Healthy and naã ¯ve TV sitcoms themselves from Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver have developed and de veloped and even rotted over the numerous years since the 1950s and we can see that equivalent putrefying way in Charlie Sheenââ¬â¢s life.

Latino Gangs in Movies Essay - 745 Words
Latino Gangs in Movies American filmmakers of the late twentieth century portrayed Latinos as merciless pursuers of the American Dream. The Latino immigrants were characterized as Urban Bandidos, seeking the path to ultimate wealth and power in a society dominated by Anglo authority. West Side Story, Fort Apache, and Scarface each portrayed the Latino character differently, but commonly depicted the Urban Bandido as a man in search of money and power in America. Not only do these immigrants fight for the warped American dream, but they often fight without fear, willing to risk almost anything to reach the top. In West Side Story, the Puerto Rican gang known as the Sharks always gets blamed for the conflicts that ariseâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Newmans partner in the film who is engaged to a young Latina woman, pressures his future wife to sleep with him and she eventually gives in to her strong Anglo man against her original beliefs opposing sex before marriage. Fort Apache displays the widespread view that Anglos had more power in a hierarchical society, while Latinos were left weak and without control over their actions and values. Scarface portrays the Latino immigrant from a different perspective, as we can see in the character of Tony Montana, played by Al Pacino. He is a Cuban refugee willing to hurt anyone and do anything to gain power and wealth in the United States. He and his friends use guns, drugs, and sex to push to the top of the power chain, while of course pursuing the innocent Anglo woman. Once again we see the portrayal of Latinas as subordinate, weak and submissive to the domineering, overprotective male. We also see the same conflict over loyalty that we viewed earlier in West Side Story, but here the Latino puts family before all and kills his best friend in a rage of jealousy over the friends relationship with his sister. In WSS, the loyalty lies with the lover instead of the family, as we observed when Maria continued to love Tony after he killed her brother in cold blood. The Inaugural Speech By Franklin D. Roosevelt - 1246 Words
Likewise with all speeches, there is a purpose behind it. In the event that it is a decent speech, there will bolster proof for its claims. At the point when contrasting three inaugural speeches given by Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Barack Obama, we find that these chronicled moments accompanied a comparable basic purpose, which was to set an agenda for the fate of their presidency. President Roosevelt in his inaugural speech first realized the importance of his presidency, the speech and the US. He mentioned that the thing the US nation needs to fear is the fear itself. He further mentioned it as unreasoning, nameless and unjustified terror which constraints and paralyze the efforts needed to make retreat (Davis, 2014). The Concept of Androgyny and Its Benefits in the Society
Introduction Social psychology is the study of the influence of the genuine, obscure, and the anticipated presence of an individual on the emotions, contemplations, and actions of another. This essay highlights the concept of androgyny and its benefits in the society, and describes situations where an androgynous individual might be suited than either a masculine or feminine individual.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on The Concept of Androgyny and Its Benefits in the Society specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The term Androgyny is derived from two Greek terms, Andras (man) and Gyne (woman). Therefore, an Androgynous individual is endowed with the female and male characteristic traits. Being an Androgyne in todayââ¬â¢s society is difficult because one is viewed as an outcast. If people had a better understanding of what androgyny really is, they might not be so quick to judge. An androgyne is a person who exh ibits traits, which are both masculine and feminine. These traits could be either physical or mental or even both. The society should be blamed for assuming that the male and female groups are the only genders. Some of these beliefs are attributed to the influence of the western culture, which disregards the existence of Androgynous individuals in the society. However, in other cultures, the situation is a little different. Gender is not a choice to be made because it is part of what and who individuals are in various societies. Therefore, there is the need to accept the existence of more than two genders in the society and live with that fact in mind. Society would be functional and better if more people were androgynous rather than being either masculine or feminine because they have a different perspective towards life. They are able to see things from both male and female perspectives. This benefits the society in the sense that they can perform duties from both sides, and this helps to save labor, time that the society cannot afford mainly because their characteristic traits have no gender value (Bem 114). There are no specific situations where an androgynous individual might be better suited than either a masculine or a feminine individual (Bem 115). Bern (115) notes that a person has to be either feminine or masculine but not both. It all depends on the situational appropriateness of various behaviors. Individuals are limited in the range of behaviors available to them as they move from one situation to another. The Bern Sex Inventory theory distinguishes the sex typed person as someone who has internalized societyââ¬â¢s sex typed standards of desirable behavior for men and women and these characteristics were selected as masculine or feminine based on sex typed social desirability. Masculine males are thus good in situations that call for instrumental orientation focusing on getting the job done.Advertising Looking for assessment on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Since the BSRI was designed to measure the extent to which a person divorces himself from those characteristics that might be considered appropriate for the opposite sex, masculinity and femininity scales were used to determine situations that someone is only capable of masculine behaviors. A personality characteristic qualified as masculine if both males and females in both samples independently judged it. The masculine sex role represented rejection of female attributes and it is here that masculine behaviors are more appropriate (Bem 116). Feminine females are good in settings where concern for the feelings of others is important. Similarly, a personality characteristic qualified as feminine if both males and females judged it to be significantly more desirable for a woman than for a man. Feminine behaviors were appropriate when the females rejected men attributes. Females are known to be more ex pressive and are more concerned with the welfare of others. In such situations where the community is involved, they tend to be part of it. Females are more concerned with the society as a whole because they believe that it is within their reach (Bem 116). Some images that are shown by the media can make some individuals to appreciate what they see rather than what is real. Research studies indicate that when an individual is obsessed with the attractive images, there is the possibility that one will loose the psychological attachment with others in the society. This is because one tends to think that there is a variety of people out there and this makes one to lack the appreciation of what one has and desire what is attractive in other people. In the case of men, exhibiting visions of beautiful women, this can make them to think that their partners are less physically attractive and this can lead to divorce and separation. The images can make people to imagine that there are numero us attractive people in the world apart from those near them (Levine 157). A pool of alternatives gives the perception that one cannot settle when there are great people out there. Even when it is well known that the women on magazines cover are supermodels, some people still adore them in the sense that they will end up dressing like them. This is one way of not appreciating who one really is and what one really has but instead desire to be like others in the world of dreams.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on The Concept of Androgyny and Its Benefits in the Society specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The ultimate implication of the influence of the media on different individuals is that it destabilizes marriage besides making many young men to stay unmarried for long. They prefer staying single blaming the media of their infatuation with the young and beautiful images it displays everywhere. A research carried out by Kanazawa found out that most divorce cases happen because one or the other spouse is dissatisfied with their mate (Levine 159). Conclusion In conclusion, androgynous individuals should be accepted in the society since they are also human beings and the only difference is their characteristic traits. Whether one is gay, transsexual or Androgynous, it is imperative that the society accords them the freedom they deserve whenever and wherever. Works Cited Bem, Sandra L. Charles Perkins Activist and Soccer Player
Charles Perkins Activist and Soccer Player Free Online Research Papers Charles Nelson Perkins, AO, (born c.1936/1937 in Alice Springs, Northern Territory - died October 19, 2000 in Sydney, New South Wales) was an Australian Aboriginal activist, soccer player and administrator. He was known as Kumantjayi Perkins in the period immediately following his death. Kumantjayi is a name used to refer to a deceased person in Arrernte culture. Perkins was born to an Arrernte woman and a Kalkadoon man and had 11 brothers and sisters. Perkins was a cousin of artist and soccer player John Moriarty. He married Eileen Munchenberg on 23 September 1961 and had two daughters (Hetti and Rachel) and one son (Adam). Perkins began playing in 1950 with Adelaide team Port Thistle. In 1951 he was selected for a South Australia under 18 representative team. He went on to play for a number of teams in Adelaide including International United (1954-55), Budapest (1956-57) and Fiorentina (1957). In 1957 he was invited to trial with English first division team Liverpool FC. Perkins ended up trialing and training with Liverpools city rival Everton FC. While at Everton Perkins had a physical confrontation with the Everton reserve grade manager after being called a kangaroo bastard. After this incident Perkins left Liverpool to move to Wigan where he worked as a coal miner at the Mosley Common Colliery alongside Great Britain rugby league player Terry OGrady. Perkins played two seasons for leading English amateur team Bishop Auckland F.C. between 1957 and 1959. Perkins in mid-1959 decided to return to Australia after trialing with Manchester United. On returning to Australia Perkins was appointed captain/coach of Adelaide Croatia. At Croatia he played alongside notable Aboriginal figures Gordon Briscoe and John Moriarty. How he managed to get into University First, he had to get is matriculation, which he didnââ¬â¢t have to get to Sydney University. So he went to a college in Sydney called the Metropolitan Business College. Now out of forty five in a class, he and one other person were the only two to successfully get through. His involvement in the Freedom Rides In 1965 he was one of the key members of the Freedom Ride a bus tour through New South Wales by activists protesting discrimination against Aboriginal people in small town Australia. This action was in emulation of the US Civil Rights Freedom Ride campaign in 1961. The Australian Freedom Ride aimed to expose discrepancies in living, education and health conditions among the Aboriginal population. The tour targeted rural towns such as Walgett, Moree, and Kempsey. They acted to publicise acts of blatant discrimination. This was demonstrated through one of the Freedom Ride activities in Walgett. A local RSL club refused entry to Aborigines, including those who were ex-servicemen who participated in the two World Wars. The bus at one stage was run off the road. On 20 February 1965, Perkins and his party tried to enter the swimming pool at Moree, where the local council had barred Aboriginal people from swimming for 40 years since it had been opened. In response to this action the riders faced physical opposition from several hundred local white Australians, including community leaders, and were pelted with eggs and tomatoes. These events were broadcast across Australia, and under pressure from public opinion, the council eventually reversed the ban on Aboriginal swimmers. The Freedom Ride then moved on, but on the way out they were followed by a line of cars, one of which collided with the rear of their bus forcing them to return to Moree where they found that the council had reneged on their previous decision. The Freedom Riders protested again forcing the council to again remove the ban. Crusades Effects on the Middle East
Crusades Effects on the Middle East Between 1095 and 1291, Christians from western Europe launched a series of eight major invasions against the Middle East. These attacks, called the Crusades, were aimed at liberating the Holy Land and Jerusalem from Muslim rule. The Crusades were sparked by religious fervor in Europe, by exhortations from various Popes, and by the need to rid Europe of excess warriors left over from regional wars. What effect did these attacks, which came from out of the blue from the perspective of Muslims and Jews in the Holy Land, have on the Middle East? Short-Term Effects In an immediate sense, the Crusades had a terrible effect on some of the Muslim and Jewish inhabitants of the Middle East. During the First Crusade, for example, adherents of the two religions joined together to defend the cities of Antioch (1097 CE) and Jerusalem (1099) from European Crusaders who laid siege to them. In both cases, the Christians sacked the cities and massacred the Muslim and Jewish defenders alike. It must have been horrifying to see armed bands of religious zealots approaching to attack a city or castle. However, as bloody as the battles could be, on the whole, the people of the Middle East considered the Crusades more of an irritant than an existential threat. A Global Trade Power During the Middle Ages, the Islamic world was a global center of trade, culture, and learning. Arab Muslim traders dominated the rich trade in spices, silk, porcelain, and jewels that flowed between China, the area that is now Indonesia, India,ââ¬â¹ and points west. Muslim scholars had preserved and translated the great works of science and medicine from classical Greece and Rome, combined that with insights from the ancient thinkers of India and China, and went on to invent or improve subjects like algebra and astronomy, and medical innovations such as the hypodermic needle. Europe, on the other hand, was a war-torn region of small, feuding principalities, mired in superstition and illiteracy. One of the primary reasons that Pope Urban II initiated the First Crusade (1096ââ¬â1099), in fact, was to distract the Christian rulers and nobles of Europe from fighting one another by creating a common enemy for them- the Muslims who controlled the Holy Land. Europes Christians would launch seven additional crusades over the next two hundred years, but none was as successful as the First Crusade. One effect of the Crusades was the creation of a new hero for the Islamic world: Saladin, the Kurdish sultan of Syria and Egypt, who in 1187 freed Jerusalem from the Christians but refused to massacre them as they had done to the citys Muslim and Jewish citizens ninety years previously. On the whole, the Crusades had little immediate effect on the Middle East, in terms of territorial losses or psychological impact. By the 1200s, people in the region were much more concerned about a new threat: the quickly-expanding Mongol Empire, which would bring down the Umayyad Caliphate, sack Baghdad, and push toward Egypt. Had the Mamluks not defeated the Mongols in the Battle of Ayn Jalut (1260), the entire Muslim world might have fallen. Effects on Europe In the centuries that followed, it was actually Europe that was most changed by the Crusades. The Crusaders brought back exotic new spices and fabrics, fueling European demand for products from Asia. They also brought back new ideas- medical knowledge, scientific ideas, and more enlightened attitudes about people of other religious backgrounds. These changes among the nobility and soldiers of the Christian world helped to spark the Renaissance and eventually set Europe, the backwater of the Old World, on a course toward global conquest. Long-Term Effects of the Crusades on the Middle East Eventually, it was Europes rebirth and expansion that finally created a Crusader effect in the Middle East. As Europe asserted itself during the fifteenth through nineteenth centuries, it forced the Islamic world into a secondary position, sparking envy and reactionary conservatism in some sectors of the formerly more progressive Middle East. Today, the Crusades constitute a major grievance for some people in the Middle East, when they consider relations with Europe and the West. That attitude is not unreasonable- after all, European Christians launched two hundred years-worth of unprovoked attacks on the Middle East out of religious zealotry and blood-lust. 21st Century Crusade In 2001, United States President George W. Bush reopened the almost thousand-year-old wound in the days following the 9/11 Attacks. On Sunday, September 16, 2001, President Bush said, this crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take a while. The reaction in the Middle East and, interestingly, also in Europe was sharp and immediate: Commentators in both regions decried Bushs use of that termà and vowed that the terrorist attacks and the USs reaction could not turn into a new clash of civilizations like the medieval Crusades. In an odd way, however, the American reaction to 9/11 did echo the Crusades. The Bush administration decided to launch the Iraq War, despite the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. Just as the first several crusades had done, this unprovoked attack killed thousands of innocents in the Middle Eastà and perpetuated the cycle of mistrust that had developed between the Muslim and Christian worlds since Pope Urban urged the European knights to liberate the Holy Land from the Saracens. Bench Mark Assessment-Epidemiology Paper Assignment
Bench Mark Assessment-Epidemiology Paper - Assignment Example A sneeze is capable of releasing up to 40, 000 droplets of tuberculosis microorganisms, and a single droplet is enough to transmit the infection. People with frequent contact with individuals infected with the disease are at a higher risk of contracting the infection with an estimated infection rate of 22%. An untreated person with active TB can infect between 10 and 15 people in a year. The chances of transmission of TB from one person to another is dependent on factors like the amount of infectious droplets expelled by the infected individual during the sneezing episode, the duration of exposure to the droplets and the ineffectiveness of ventilation. TB infection in an individual can exist in the form of an active disease or the form of a latent infection. An individual with the latent form of the disease does not feel sick and presents with no signs and symptoms of the infection. Latent form of TB is only diagnosed through a tuberculin skin test or a TB blood test. People with the latent TB are not infectious despite possessing the mycobacterium. Individuals with the active form of TB presents with the signs and symptoms of the infection in addition to the positive tuberculin skin test and the TB blood test (Golden & Vikram, 2005). The most active form of TB is the pulmonary tuberculosis that presents in about 90% of the cases. Pulmonary TB affects the lungs and manifests with chest pain, prolonged coughing and sputum production. In extreme cases of the condition, an individual can cough small amounts of blood a manifestation of the erosion of the pulmonary artery. Extra pulmonary tuberculosis accounts for 15-20% of the active cases of the disease. These are conditions caused by Mycobacterium tuberculin but affect structures out of the lungs. Extra pulmonary tuberculosis is common among the immunosuppressed individuals

Horrifying Effects of a Senseless War :: essays papers
Horrifying Effects of a Senseless War Dirty Work is an irresistible debut novel from one of the greatest novelist in American literature today. Throughout each chapter, Larry Brown creatively changes the narrator between the two main characters, which works magnificently. He is bold and decisive in his telling of two disabled individuals being tormented by the physical and emotional hell they withstand in the everlasting Vietnam. Braiden Chainey has no arms or legs due to a machine gun (73). Walter James, thanks to a rocket grenade, no longer has his face (66). As they lay side by side in their separate beds in a V.A. hospital 22 years later, their wounds still ache. These two Mississippians, one white and one black, tell each other their horrendous stories. One by one, they take turns describing the details of their lives and the outcome wanted for their future. Many old themes of literature are invoked in this astonishing tale of hatred, emotion, vengeance, and even passion. Their vivid memories portray the true reality of how that horrifying war gave the veterans the unforgettable long-term effects. Dirty Work is an extraordinary novel, which continuously shows the harsh realities of a powerful war. The two main characters in this novel are compelling. Every feature and emotion mentioned about each individual are so realistic that they are unforgettable. From their family background to their scars of war, each and every aspect is told with such detail and brilliance that the story almost comes to life. Brown utilizes southern slang to the greatest. When Braiden and Walter speak to each other, they perfectly mimic the mistakes and shortenings of everyday southern speech. Most of the dialect indicates brilliantly the way that people whom the author might have encountered at times in his life may have spoken. In one passage, Walter speaks with a nurse, showing their strong southern culture coming out through speech: ââ¬Å"Whereââ¬â¢d you learn that song?â⬠ââ¬Å"Known that all my life, So you one of them Missippi boys, huh?â⬠ââ¬Å"Nothing but.â⬠(114) Dirty Work is strongly in the tradition of a classic war book with some southern heritage.

Popular Culture: Effects of Big Corporations on Society Essay
The field of business plays an important role in the economies of various countries as well as the financial robustness of the world market. In this realm, big corporations have larger responsibilities in steering the direction of the economy in terms of the decisions that they make and the operations that they do. Their influence is not merely over other smaller corporations or companies because they also have a great impact in the society. These large corporations affect the society in numerous ways especially when it comes to the different means by which they approach their clients in marketing their products or services. However, the impact of these corporations still needs to be analyzed especially on how they shape the society at large. There are observable advantages and disadvantages that big corporations have over the general public that must be given due attention. It is the aim of this paper to identify and discuss the role of large corporations in the society. In line with this, the part that big corporations contribute in the field of business and in sustaining the needs and wants of the public will also be emphasized. Furthermore, the methods that most of these companies use in their business operations like commercials, advertisements, and mainstream media will also be accounted for. Lastly, the impact and effects of large corporations and the means that they use will also be assessed in terms of how it control the trends and fads in the society as well as how an individual view his or her self. Large Corporations Despite the feeling of some people with regards to the behaviour and mode of operation of large corporations, they cannot deny that this institution also have a contribution in the society. These corporations are mainly responsible in the material well-being of most people. It is through the services and products that they render that the public could be able to have their necessities like food, clothing, and shelter. Almost all corporate employees work everyday in order to cater to the needs and wants of the people. This kind of situation is very observable in the current society wherein almost everything in the lives of most individuals involves corporate business. The corporations have its faults and failures but the fact still remains that the corporation is an efficient institution that was created by human beings for the purpose of distributing resources for individualââ¬â¢s usage (Bishop). However, the corporationsââ¬â¢ efficiency in doing its purpose comes with a cost. Some people are saying that in order for the corporation to function the society must give this institution the leeway when it comes to societal constraints so that they can pursue material ends. Having the freedom from political, moral, and ethical concerns has largely benefited these corporations but these have been a source of frustration by most governmental and social organizations. Serious concerns have resulted in the leniency that corporations has such as: pollution, environmental degradation, product disposal, natural resource depletion, worker welfare, urban decay as well as the long-term health effects from their improper waste management. According to Bishop Rooke, these issues are indeed important and must be immediately address. However, if the corporations were not given the freedom with regards to societal constraints then this would dampen the development of the modern industrial society. The World of Marketing Baker regards marketing as a field of discipline and an endeavour which existed for a considerable amount of time in the world to date but remains to be something that still brings fascination and wonders to todayââ¬â¢s organizations (3). The primary goal and focus of the efforts of marketing is to inform the people with regard to the products and services (Steinberg 1). For large corporations, this is used in launching the products and services that they have and introducing it to their target market with the idea that the population from the said group should be enticed to buy the product that is being presented. This serves as the connection between the companies and the society wherein the former infuses several values to the latter through the use of different forms of media such as that of the television, the radio, the internet, the newspapers, and other print and visual forms so long as it allows them to create an image for the products. In doing so, the companies are able to make their corresponding contribution to the popular culture of the society. As previously mentioned, there are certain values that are sent with the marketing efforts of the companies. In identifying the relationship between popular culture and the different forms of marketing campaigns that affect it, it is important to define what popular culture means. McGowan and Kitson defines popular culture as ââ¬Å"entertainment that is produced by the culture industries, composed of symbolic content, mediated widely, and consumed with pleasureâ⬠(138). Popular Culture and Marketing of Large Companies The relationship between popular culture and the marketing of large companies may be seen as two-fold. Popular culture serves as the sources of ideas for the marketing efforts of the large companies. Just the same, the biases that are contained within the marketing activities, such as advertising, commercials, and mainstream media, also affect and revolve back into the popular culture of the society. The latter relationship between the two serves as the focus of the next discussion. Several forms of technological advances today has allowed the large companies to create images within their advertisements, which may or may not reflect what is real. While deception could be seen as an element of the marketing efforts and activities, people could not easily filter this easily. These images created by the large companies easily ââ¬Å"circulate in cultureâ⬠(Schroeder 7). This is because of the ease that is associated with technological advancements to reach a wider set of audience and deliver their messages with much impact. A classic example of how the media has affected the popular culture is the way the concept of beauty is reflected and perceived by people. For example, companies such as Max Factor and Ponds, large corporations which deal with products related to aesthetics, are giving much emphasis on beauty that adheres to the standards of the white Europeans and Americans (Moreno 137). It is important to note that since these large companies caters to international consumers, they are able to affect the perceptions of people from outside the European and American countries with regard to beauty. The result is a notion created that people need to be white, tall, slim, and adopt the characteristics of people from these countries in order to become beautiful. In a sense, the advertisements and the commercials launched by the large companies have limited the images of beauty and make a limited sense of the values and characteristics that people should accept. Along with this, discrimination is felt by those who are not able to follow the trends set by the marketing campaigns of the large companies. Likewise, the very nature of these companies, wherein they are capable of making big initiatives, are financially stable, and are able to establish their names and credibility, has strengthened their impact with that of the society. To a certain extent, their words are seen as something that people follow because they have created a sense of influence and are seen as leaders in the industries to which they belong. Conclusion Large companies have affected the society in several ways. First, they have made their organizations available and answerable to the different societal concerns. This is brought about by the need for them to abide by the principles of corporate social responsibility. Second, they have affected the popular culture such that their marketing efforts have led them to send messages and images that are accepted by the society. It is important for the people to filter these images. Likewise, it is necessary that a review of the ethical conducts of the companies is maintained.

Modern Theory Modern Attachment Theory Essay - 2241 Words
Modern Attachment Theory Modern attachment theory, which has now shifted to a regulation theory, takes Bowlbyââ¬â¢s original work on attachment and looks at how early experiences, such as prenatal stress, optimal/suboptimal stress, and the motherââ¬â¢s ability to regulate the childââ¬â¢s needs, help the child form an internalized working model for attachment style due to the brain being an ââ¬Å"experience-dependent organâ⬠(Cozolino, 2010c; J. Schore A. Schore, 2012). According to modern attachment theory, a ââ¬Å"good enoughâ⬠mother needs to be psychobiologically attuned with her infant in order to co-regulate the shifts in the Central Nervous System (CNS) and Automatic Nervous System (ANS) that the infant will experience (J. Schore A. Schore, 2012). The motherââ¬â¢s ability to co-regulate the infant through the mother-infant affect synchrony, meaning the process of attunement, misattunement, and re-attunement will ultimately determine the childââ¬â¢s attachment style and if t he child will be resilient as well as if the child will be able to self-regulate (J. Schore A. Schore, 2012). A mother does not need to be perfectly attuned with her infantââ¬â¢s needs because moments of misattument that consist of mild to moderate stress followed be re-attunement are necessary in order to help foster the childââ¬â¢s resiliency (Mulligan, 2014a). What Made Canada a Leader in Human Rights Free Essays
What made Canada a world leader in Human Rights? Experiences memory of the Holocaust and the horrors of discrimination had shaped Canadaââ¬â¢s role as a world leader in human rights. Canada had done numerous measures to eliminate racial discrimination and as well as giving Canadians equal rights they deserve. Such as drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Ontario Human rights code, Canadian Human rights Act, and as well as the Canadian Charter of rights. We will write a custom essay sample on What Made Canada a Leader in Human Rights or any similar topic only for you Order Now First, Canadaââ¬â¢s participation and corporation in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is influential and significant, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a major milestone in the history of human rights, and many policies made by different countries are based on the declaration, such as the Canadian Charter of Rights. John Peters Humphrey, a Canadian was appointed to by the United Nations to be the principle drafter of the International Bill of Rights, which would eventually become the UN Declaration of Human Rights. He was also appointed as the Director of Human rights at the time representing 19 nations ranging from Australia to Yugoslavia, his work had definitely played an important role in drafting the Declaration. The declaration stated clearly that everybody has the equal rights, to be treated with dignity, and that nobody should be subject for torture in contrast of the treatment the Jews got from the Nazi Party. And many other rights such as right to life, liberty, and security, right to education, right to participate with cultural life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion.Without the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the whole world would be very different, for example racial discrimination wouldââ¬â¢ve been still here, meaning that another holocaust could still be possib le. Therefore Canadaââ¬â¢s participation was rather important. Next, The Ontario Human Rights Code introduced in in 1962 was policy introduced to Ontario by the Federal Government of Canada to further more protect and to comply with the declaration of Human Rights. This proves that Canada is committed to protect and respect the declaration of human rights. It was written in six parts, each dealing with one form or discrimination. Generally, it deals with work place discrimination and racial discrimination. Such as in Part one, it states that symbols, signs, emblems or any form of logo should not to published or displayed with intentions to discriminate people, an obvious response to the Swastika made by the Nazi Party.Next, it was stated that employers or work unions cannot refuse or continue to employ a person because of their physical appearance, race, nationality or place of origin, this was probably stated because of the White People Job Position Domination in Nazi Germany during the War. Equal pay for female worker and a male worker was also mentioned in the Code that is applicable when there is a female worker and a male worker in the same working position but have a different pay.The rest of the code is about the Ontario Human rights com mission, how it is applicable for everybody in case of a complain, and rules such as complaints must be submitted in forms will be written in forms of a letter mailed or delivered to the Office of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Essentially the whole matter about the Ontario Human Rights code is to father more reinforce the Human Rights for the people in Ontario, and an addition to eliminate sexual discriminated based on a traditional misconception that men are superior to women.Next is the Canadian Human Rights Act passed in 1977, this is an act that will establish the Canadian Human Rights Commission that will be assigned to justify and look into possible cases of Human Rights violation in Canada. The whole point of the Act is to ensure that everybody gets the equal chance and quality of employment with government positions unaffected by their race, sex, origin or any other personal traits all across Canada and not just Ontario. Canadians all have the same chance of employment as a civil worker in federal departments, chartered banks, airlines, radio stations, telephone companies and many others. And finally, there are policies established at a provincial level to each of the provinces in Canada such as th e Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission, Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and many others following the Act. They specifically gave protection to human rights and work place equality to each of the provinces. In addition, since 2005, the government launched a programme called LEEP (Legislated Equality Employment Programme) to further more ensure equal opportunities to be employed in private companies registered in the programme. In Conclusion, this Act gave all Canadians a guarantee of equality in government job positions. Last but not least, the Canadian charter of Rightswas introduced in Canada as part of the Constitution Act of 1982. The Canadian Charter of Rights is a combination, improvement and addition to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Canadian Charter of Rights is a Bill of Rights that lists political and civil rights to everybody in Canada. It came into effect along with the Constitution Act of 1982 and was signed by the Queen Elizabeth II of England.Under the Charter, every Canadian essentially has several rights. Such as Fundamental Rights, ranging from freedom of religion, conscience, thought, belief, expression, speech, assembly and press, Democratic Rights, such as right to vote in an election every five years. Mobility Rights, rights to move in and out of Canada, LegalRightslike rights to be told why a Canadian is arrested and presumed innocent until proven guilty in court, Equality rights, equal treatment in courts and protection by the law.Language rights, rights to speak English or French in Canada no matter where you are and finally Minority Rights, people that are considered minority population in Canada has the rights to be educated in their own languages, that mostly is applicable to the Aboriginals. The Canadian Charter of Rights is a list of rights every Canadian is entitled to similar to the basic human rights, but with addition that will fit Canada better such as rights to speak English or French in any province in Canada. In Conclusion, Canada had done lots of effort to promote human rights, both locally and internationally after realizing the horrors of Holocaust during WWII and had done best of its ability to prevent another one. Gaining knowledge and experience over the matt er over the years had made Canada a successful leader in human rights. Canadaââ¬â¢s effort such as the participation in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was extremely important as it was the beginning of human rights. As a result, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Charter of Rights were subsequently introduced to Canada and changed everything forever. Understanding Human Resources Democratic Leadership Style
Question: 1. Identify the various forms of organisational structure, culture and management styles and to be able to give examples. 2. Describe the role of an HR department within the context of an organisation. 3. Demonstrate key activities managers undertake and the skills required when managing people within an organisation. Answer: Introduction HRM refers to the formal systems which are managed by the HR managers of an organisation in order to generate revenue by managing the concerns of the people associated with the company. Human Resource Management includes many aspects such as staffing, compensation, and employee benefits. The essay focuses on HRM functions of Capco. Human Resource Management of Capco is designed in a way to maximise the performance of employees in the context of strategic objectives of a particular employee. Different concepts of human resources included in HRM are personnel management, employee relations, performance management, leadership, and retention. 1. The flat organisational structure is suitable for Capco. The organisational culture of Capco is driven by team spirit, entrepreneurship and innovation. Capco is a multinational organisation operating over 20 locations worldwide. According to the nature of the organisational culture, flat structure is best for Capco. In a flat structure, there are very few numbers of middle management. Flat structure organisation will perfectly define the organisational nature and culture of Capco (Lustenberger 2014). The managers and the consultants of Capco are allowed to enjoy individuality and entrepreneurship within the company. Tall structure organisation will not allow this type of organisational culture. There will be many hierarchies in between where staffs and executives have to report for their specific work. The flat structure will enable smooth maintenance of open line of communication between the middle management with the junior executives (Smith et al. 2013). Integrity and openness are easy to follow while having a flat organisational structure in a company. Decentralised decision-making is possible in flat structure through employee involvement. In this structure, executives receive fast feedback from their seniors due to few middle-level managers in the organisation. Hence, quick decisions are taken regarding customer feedback or strategic perspectives (Nrman, Johnson and Gingnell 2016). Self-managing teams are encouraged in Capco for excellent performance. 2. The span of control is defined as the number of subordinates present in an organisation. Many businesses in human resource management use this term. It is discussed earlier that Capco will flourish if the company follows flat structure (Wallin, Pousette and Dellve 2014). Self-directed teams are there in Capco that have a specific level of the span of control. The span of control creates positive impact on employee motivation. The organisational culture of Capco encourages entrepreneurship, individuality, openness, good communication, etc. Employees of Capco are motivated, as they enjoy less span of control from their superiors. They are also allowed to work individually in a creative way (Wong et al. 2015). Hierarchy is an essential element in the organisational structure of a company. Different companies follow a different style of hierarchy. Being a flat organisation or a tall organisation, the hierarchy will be present in every organisation. Hierarchies of management are not only formed for controlling different activities but also for employee motivation. Employees will work hard to reach themselves in higher levels of management in the organisation (Diefenbach 2013). Employees of Capco are provided with many opportunities in socialising and grow their career within the organisation. Higher post in the hierarchy of Capco will provide employees benefits and responsibilities that are more interesting as well as challenging. 3. Among the three leadership styles mentioned in the question, the leaders of the organisation follow democratic leadership style in Capco. Democratic leadership is also known as participative leadership. As Capco is a consulting firm, democratic leadership is the best form of leadership that explores problems and finding solutions. This form of leadership will help consultants and executives to experiment the possibilities in depth leading to a discussion among different level of employees along with sharing of ideas in order to provide solutions for the problems (Goleman, Boyatzis and McKee 2013). New ideas will flow smoothly in Capco that will allow more flexibility among the employees to communicate with each other. Participative or democratic leadership include supervisors and consultants in providing ideas regarding business solutions, as well as they, can participate in the major decision-making process of the company (Teles 2015). Openness in working environment is maintaine d in Capco that can be possible by following democratic leadership within the organisation. This form of leadership is responsible for bringing the best from an experienced professional team. Democratic leaders capitalise on the talents and skills of the consultants by providing them with an opportunity in sharing their views in front of everyone rather than simply expecting the employees to conform (Bhatti et al. 2012). 4. Performance management is a vital aspect of an organisation that ensures meeting goals in an efficient manner. The focus of performance management is measuring the performance of the employees as well as the organisation in a broader concept (Buckingham and Goodall 2015). Capco will formulate performance management in a way that will lead to improved management control, motivated workforce, increased financial gain, etc. Organisational development will also be included in performance management of Capco through performance appraisal, performance planning and performance coaching. Capco should focus on the aspect of performance appraisal where individual performance is measured along with feedback provided to the consultants (De Waal 2013). Reward management is related to the performance management system of Capco. Capco sets rewards based on performance of consultants. Reward management of a company refers to implementation and formulation of policies and strategies that aim in rewarding people consistently, equitably and fairly according to the performance and their values within the organisation (Rose 2014). Reward management of Capco includes controlling and analysing compensation, remuneration, incentives, monetary and non-monetary benefits for the employees. It is a part of employee motivation that can also includes non-monetary rewards such as recognition, development and training. Capco will concentrate both on extrinsic and intrinsic rewards. Conclusion and Recommendations Creativity, individuality, openness are the main characteristics of organisational culture which influence the employees of the organisation to grow their career and contribute their ideas to the business development of Capco. Capco is a consultant that has to focus on different aspects of human resource management such as rewards, performance appraisal, democratic leadership, the flat organisational structure in order to develop organisational culture as well as the development of employees associated with the company. It is recommended that Capco have to focus on different forms of rewards especially, which will improve the personal satisfaction of employees such as recognition, empowerment, trust, feedback, information, etc. References Bhatti, N., Maitlo, G.M., Shaikh, N., Hashmi, M.A. and Shaikh, F.M., 2012. We Dont See Things As They Are; We See Them As We Are
We Dont See Things As They Are; We See Them As We Are Introduction People will seldom experience absolute truth. What is perceived and heard is the basis for a conclusion that is made. The act of seeing and hearing gives the experience required to make a final decision. For instance, the magician as an entertainer deliberately focuses the acts on the audience perception. The audience way of perceiving the acts suggest the occurrence as impossible and thus the ability to have the magic acts. (82)Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on We Dont See Things As They Are; We See Them As We Are specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The act of perceiving things as we are instead of as they are is observable in our daily lives for instance if control over one issue is overtaken by another urgent one then the perception is from the mind or thoughts. Considering the scenario where a man fails to control his children in the public until they become annoyance to others may be acting so because o f other thoughts that may be disturbing the mind such as illness or death of the wife, or job related issues. The people who the children annoy would chaotically confront this person because as per their thoughts, he must be ignorant to a point of not controlling the children. They are not in a position to see the issues as they are because their perception only focuses on the children. At the workplace, the same perception of things as we are other than as they are is noticeable. People make assumptions about state of affairs of fellow workmates basing them on past experiences which have no relationship or are not relevant to the present undertakings or situation. The expectations are always different when the assumptions were based on the past wrong premises are used. (Warren and Warren, 41) On the example of the workplace, majority of the employees would pick the salary, allowances, bonuses and benefits are more important factors for a job as opposed to interest, decision making, training, feedback or respect. In the same work setting, if managers are asked what the motivators to their work would be, most of them would choose to first rank the money items such as interest, decision making, benefits, perquisites and respect. This is a clear indication that they lack appreciation of the workforce. What they will be undertaking in the firms would be wrong because they have attitude created by the environment. This makes them not to understand the needs of the workforce but think as per believes that might be there. They ought to understand or be made to that the great divide between their thinking criteria and the workforce is output demand. The managerââ¬â¢s decision is erroneous based on demand from the workforce. If a manager is able to understand that this difference exists, then it is possible to have a manager continue the managerial tasks without contradicting the organizational needs. Based on decisions making, the decisions concerning the company o ught to be supportive to the support staff thus the manager must inquire for their thoughts over the importance.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? The simplest perceptions are a basis for some assumptions, which are out of sight. According to Warren and Warren (41), the questions one should ask are whether the mind natures the world in accordance with requests of knowledge, if culture limits insight or understanding and whether human beings experience comparable realities. In the world of scientist, they use knowledge to come-up with evidence for approval and disapproval of theories. It is the need to understand that drives the breakthroughs. The already acquired knowledge brings-out supportive objective truth. The scientist understanding is the basis for discoveries in the world today. They utilize it to bring out objective truth for the societal benefit. Existence of a basis for an argument is a stepping-stone for the scientist to claim correctness and thus the ability to support it as a scientific fact that is independent of human thought or feelings. This applies even when the emotions and perceptions dominate the argument. Knowledge is the control to reality. The mind can only comprehend what one exposes to it when viewing something that is explicable and this is an indication that human mind seeks experience to solve issues. Ways of knowing There are innumerable paradigms of perception, used in understanding reality. People often think that their chosen opinion is right but there are many shortcomings or contradictions even over the most treasured explanations. This raises the question over preference of choice. Arguably, the choice depends on the various methods of knowing. The philosophy is concern with the abstract mind, which helps in the way of thinking about and understanding the natural history of reality as opposed to jumping into conclusions. Rationalism calls for one to reject realities that lack immediate evidence. The emotion way of knowing is concern with psychophysical techniques and language calls for a level of wisdom and understanding. (Allan and Evans, 165) Some of the life assumptions that premise articulation and exploration of cultural, value and processes include the facts that personal values create identity and informs why or how things are the way they are, determines experiences of the world and influences the fundamental professional choices and practices. The world constructs the personal values and the culture in which people operate affects personal identity or these values.Advertising We will write a custom essa y sample on We Dont See Things As They Are; We See Them As We Are specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Sometimes the culture compromises cultural personal values. Tension, stress and conflict can arise when the dominant paradigm such as personal values are challenged. Other than considering it as a way of acquiring communicative means, acquisition of language entails use of senses, personal reasoning and feelings. ââ¬Å"How religion affects peoples understanding of thingsâ⬠Considering a workgroup made of members who share common goals and personal values as the drive for attending to clients, some of the similarities ought to employ for catering of the differences. Such a team should have the client centred practice where the focus is the clients who are treated as experts or determinants for the future of the group. The belief on this setup is that people choose growth and the clients should have the freedom to understand their own situa tion and determine their future. This is enforcement of client independence where the service group only assists in decision-making. Some of the common personal values the team may have include equity. This calls for a common personal value that allows equitable treatment of clients accessing support. The value of equity is achievable through quality education. Education helps one to become informed, understand opportunities, choices or responsibilities. Secondly, there is need for provision of information. To promote equity for such a workgroup people ought to be well-up about participating in the decision-making procedures. Requirements for promoting culturally constructed service delivery unit include accountability or support. In line with Allan and Evans, (152) common values should not compromise relevance and legitimacy of members of the group. The values need to be explicitly understood when people from diverse cultural groups are interacting or working as a unit. Such team m embers would face great challenges concerning how to react in a culturally responsive manner and still maintain truthfulness over personal values. The field of human service is full of tension brought about by cultural differences and believes. Expectation is for members to maintain similarity of services but at the same time, there should be enough flexibility to cater for individual differences and needs.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? The personal unique ways of perception to life and different knowledge are the factors that bring about the differences in understanding. Some of the factors may also include the life experiences, cultural differences, gender, religion and personality. The experience is a huge contributor to decision making. Bad experience makes someone avoid repeating the act or task while good ones catalyze decision-making procedures. Different personally give different perceptions.
